A meeting on illegal cross-border trade and transportation of goods was held tin the office of the Lawngtlai, on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner called upon all concerned to make every effort to ensure strict compliance with the law in all matters relating to trade and transportation. He stressed the need for thorough verification of goods transported and trade activities from Lawngtlai district towards Myanmar to ensure that all such activities are conducted strictly in accordance with the law, and stated that appropriate action should be taken against violators.
The Deputy Commissioner also called for close investigation into reports of vehicles being purchased or operated in the names of persons who are not Indian citizens, cases involving stolen vehicles, and the illegal sale and transfer of vehicles.
As Lawngtlai district shares an international border, he emphasised the need for strict enforcement of laws. He further stated that the District Administration would continue to make every possible effort and sought the cooperation of various voluntary organisations and the people of Lawngtlai District in this regard.
During the meeting, reports were presented by the Additional SP, Taxation Officer (LADC), Assam Rifles, CYLA and AOC YLA Branch, followed by discussions on various measures to be taken.
It was agreed that the District Administration, Mizoram Police and LADC should continue their efforts, while YLA Branches located along the international border and other NGOs should also extend their cooperation. The meeting noted that a number of reports concerning missing vehicles from within Mizoram and outside the State had already been followed up, and that the AOC Veng YLA Branch had been making significant efforts in this regard. The meeting called for strengthened and continued joint efforts.
The meeting also acknowledged the growing importance of the KMMTTP road route through Zorinpui for trade with Myanmar and noted that there would be increasing activities along the route in the future. In view of its potential to become an important trade route, the meeting stressed the need for strict enforcement of laws and regulations. NGOs, particularly CYLA and YLA Branches, were recognised as important partners in supporting various government initiatives in this regard.
All concerned were urged to work together for the safety and welfare of the people and the protection of the State. The meeting further called for strict orders to be issued by the District Administration and for sustained follow-up and enforcement.
