Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday chaired a meeting with Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, officials of the School Education Department, and officials from the Finance Department and DP&AR at the CM Conference Hall to discuss various issues concerning the functioning and staffing of the School Education Department.
The meeting discussed the large number of vacant posts of District Education Officers (DEOs) and Sub-Divisional Education Officers (SDEOs). The proposal currently under consideration to facilitate the promotion of Circle Education Officers to the post of SDEO was discussed, and it was agreed that the matter should be pursued expeditiously.
The proposal for the creation of the Mizoram Education Service was reported, with the expectation that it would be brought before the Council of Ministers at the earliest.
Issues relating to the Hindi Education Officer, Adult Education Wing and Physical Education Wing were also reviewed. It was considered necessary to undertake direct recruitment for the post of Hindi Education Officer.
The overall status of teachers was also reviewed. The meeting discussed the proposal to operate certain schools under the PPP mode, as well as plans for the merger or closure of schools with very low student enrolment.
The Government has already approved the recruitment of 671 regular Primary School teachers, to be recruited in phases, with 100 posts to be filled during the current financial year.
For Middle Schools, approval has been given for the recruitment of 544 teachers on contract basis, to be filled in phases, with 212 teachers approved for recruitment during the current year.
For High Schools, approval has been given for the recruitment of 107 regular teachers, also to be filled in phases, with 57 teachers approved for recruitment during the current year, an official statement said.
