Maruti Suzuki India has crossed the milestone of dispatching one million vehicles through in-plant railway terminals at its manufacturing facilities in Hansalpur, Gujarat, and Manesar, Haryana. The Hansalpur siding began operations in March 2023, while the Manesar facility became operational in June 2025. Of the one million vehicles dispatched through the two terminals so far, around 7.9 lakh were transported from Gujarat and 2.1 lakh from Manesar. In the current financial year, the company said 70 per cent of its rail-based vehicle dispatches have moved through these in-plant facilities, while total rail-based dispatches exceeded three lakh units as of August 31. The terminals allow vehicles to be loaded directly onto freight trains within the manufacturing plants, reducing the need for road transport to railway stations. Maruti Suzuki said the shift from road to rail has helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption while easing road congestion. The company’s share of rail-based vehicle dispatches has increased from 5 per cent in FY2014-15 to 26.5 per cent in FY2025-26. Maruti Suzuki plans to raise the share to 35 per cent by FY2030-31, supported by further investment in rail infrastructure, including an in-plant siding at its upcoming Kharkhoda facility. The company described the one-million-vehicle milestone as an important step in its green logistics strategy.
