Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured all possible support to the Manipur government in its efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state during a meeting with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, where Khemchand briefed Modi on the state government’s ongoing initiatives to improve the situation in Manipur. He highlighted the resumption of bus services on the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route and efforts to ensure the uninterrupted movement of goods-laden trucks on NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar Road) and NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road).
The Chief Minister also informed the Prime Minister about steps being taken to bridge the trust deficit among various communities in the state.
During the meeting, Khemchand urged the Centre to approve proposals for upgrading several state highways to national highway status. He also sought the upgradation of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, into an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Khemchand further invited the Prime Minister to visit Manipur.
Modi acknowledged the efforts of the state government in restoring peace and said the situation in Manipur has shown improvement. He assured that all reasonable issues concerning the state would be addressed while keeping the aspirations of its people in mind.
