On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Hindu harvest festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi fed his cows food at his home in Lok Kalyan Marg (LKM). On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a harvest holiday celebrated throughout India in accordance with local customs, Prime Minister Modi greeted the country on Wednesday. Celebrated as a mid-winter harvest festival, it commemorates the Sun’s entry into the sign of Capricorn (Makar). Many regions of the nation commemorate Sankranti, a holy day, in accordance with regional traditions and customs. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “I pray to Lord Surya for everyone’s happiness, prosperity, and excellent health.”

Attending the Pongal celebrations in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, PM Modi praised the event as a worldwide celebration honoring one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Leading members of Tamil society, including the actors of the recently released movie Parasakthi, attended the festivities at Union Minister L Murugan’s home here. Modi’s attendance was perceived as an outreach to the southern state, where assembly elections are scheduled to take place in the coming months. Speaking to the crowd, Modi stated that this celebration honors the labor of farmers and shows thanks to the sun and the soil.

According to him, Pongal has become a worldwide celebration that is loved by Tamilians all over the world and conveys the idea of preserving peaceful balance with nature. “The Pongal celebration serves as a reminder that thankfulness ought to transcend words and become a fundamental aspect of our everyday existence. At the festivities, which were attended by Union ministers, bureaucrats, and members of other social groups, Prime Minister Modi declared, “When the Earth provides us with so much, it is our responsibility to cherish and protect it.”
