A social media influencer from Lucknow was found dead under suspicious circumstances, prompting a police investigation and allegations of dowry-related harassment from her family. The victim’s relatives claimed that they had provided ₹7 lakh and other gifts at the time of her marriage, but her in-laws allegedly continued to demand additional dowry, including a car.

According to family members, the woman had repeatedly informed them about alleged pressure and harassment from her husband and his relatives over unmet demands. They alleged that despite fulfilling several requests after the marriage, the demands persisted, causing her significant emotional distress. The family has accused the in-laws of subjecting her to mental and physical harassment in connection with the dowry demands.

Police officials said the woman’s body was discovered at her residence and was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination. Investigators have begun collecting evidence and recording statements from family members, neighbours, and other individuals connected to the case. Authorities are also examining digital communications and social media activity to establish the circumstances leading up to her death.

Following the family’s complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, including provisions related to dowry harassment and suspicious death. Police stated that further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and forensic reports.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the continuing issue of dowry-related harassment and violence despite strict legal prohibitions. Women’s rights activists have called for a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure accountability and justice. Officials have assured that all angles will be examined and that those found responsible will face legal action in accordance with the law.
