Mizoram joined the global observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga on Saturday with statewide programmes organised under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The events brought together government officials, security personnel, students, NCC cadets and members of the public in a collective celebration promoting health and well-being.

The main state-level programme was held at the 34 Assam Rifles Helipad in Zokhawsang, Aizawl, and was organised by the National AYUSH Mission and the Directorate of AYUSH. Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), attended the event as the chief guest, while Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii was present as the guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor highlighted the global impact of yoga and acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting the practice internationally. He noted that the United Nations-recognised International Day of Yoga has now completed 12 years, reflecting its growing global acceptance.

He described yoga as a holistic discipline that promotes physical, mental and intellectual well-being. Emphasising the importance of the Common Yoga Protocol, he stated that regular practice can significantly enhance overall health and lifestyle.

The Governor further remarked that yoga is not merely about physical exertion but about achieving harmony within the body and mind. He added that yoga requires no special equipment and can be practised by individuals of all ages and backgrounds, making it an accessible and inclusive form of wellness.

Across Mizoram, similar yoga sessions were organised at various locations, marking the occasion with active public participation.
