The youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned of a renewed nationwide movement after the Supreme Court permitted police to continue investigating existing FIRs registered against student demonstrators involved in recent paper leak protests. Spearheaded by CJP leaders, including founder Abhijeet Dipke and spokesperson Saurav Das, the student movement asserted that the top court’s directive directly contradicts the Union Government’s explicit assurance that all police complaints and punitive actions against protesting students would be unconditionally dropped. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant ordered the immediate release of all detained minors and protected students without prior criminal antecedents from coercive action. However, the court allowed state authorities to proceed with the underlying investigations while hinting at establishing a high-powered independent team to probe allegations of police violence. CJP representatives argued that allowing investigations to linger leaves hundreds of young activists vulnerable to police harassment and intimidation. Stressing that the student community will not tolerate broken promises, the CJP vowed to organize massive peaceful demonstrations across major cities if authorities target students or fail to honor the government’s previous commitment to withdraw all cases.
