Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh inaugurated three important meetings of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal – the 15th Research Council Meeting, the 11th Extension Education Council Meeting and the 33rd Academic Council Meeting – at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Selesih, Aizawl on Monday.
During the inauguration, Governor Singh described CAU as a beacon of agricultural innovation for the North East.
He highlighted how the university’s three councils – Research, Extension Education, and Academic – effectively integrate laboratories, fields and classrooms, embodying the “Lab to Land” approach. The Governor praised CAU’s ambitious policy document, “Transformation of the Mizoram Economy from US$ 540 Million to US$ 6,394 Million by 2047”.
The Governor called for stronger collaboration between scientists, faculty, researchers and farmers, urging a focus on value addition, entrepreneurship, sustainable practices, market linkages and effective last-mile outreach.
Praising CAU’s efforts, he assured continued support and hoped the council meetings would deliver strong outcomes, concluding that the future of a self-reliant, sustainable and inclusive North East will be “grown in your laboratories, taught in your classrooms, and harvested in our fields.”
During the event, the Governor formally handed over technologies developed by the College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya – Strawberry Jam, Litchi Jam and Mango King Chilli Sauce – to Harshit T., Manager (Marketing Strategy), PRIME Rural, Shillong, Meghalaya.
He also officially launched four Comilla Cotton Meditech Products jointly developed by the College of Community Science, Tura and ICAR-CICR, Nagpur.
The Governor also distributed lavender and coriander seeds to farmers from Aizawl, Saitual, Serchhip and Champhai districts.
The Governor also released seven important publications brought out by CAU.
