Mizoram PWD Minister Vanlalhlan inaugurated the Langkaih Bridge connecting Mizoram and Tripura, and the Terei Bridge on the Bairabi–Zamuang road on Friday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima and Lunglei West MLA T. Lalhlimpuia.
The Minister said that the day was a joyful and memorable occasion and expressed hope that these bridges would strengthen connectivity and contribute to progress of the state. He stated that the inauguration was not just about opening bridges, but also a significant fulfilment of promises made to the people. Vanlalhlana thanked the PWD department for their dedicated efforts in constructing the bridges and encouraged them to continue serving the public with sincerity and reliability. He added that government employees should always remember that they are public servants and must carry out their responsibilities wholeheartedly for the development of the state.
Vanlalhlana expressed delight at the inauguration of the two key bridges, describing the occasion as a landmark moment and the beginning of a new chapter in Mizoram’s development. Speaking about the Langkaih Bridge, which is aimed at strengthening connectivity with neighbouring Tripura, he referred to it as a “Border Bridge” and expressed confidence that it would further deepen ties and facilitate greater interaction between the two states. He also noted that Mamit district possesses immense potential across various sectors and urged the people to continue working with dedication, sincerity, and perseverance for the district’s sustained progress. The Minister added that the government is taking significant steps to improve road infrastructure and connectivity throughout the region.
During the event, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima and Lunglei West MLA Lalhlimpuia also spoke, saying that these bridges would become important routes connecting communities and neighbouring states and encouraged the public to make good use of them for development. The event was chaired by Zoramliana, Engineer-in-Chief, PWD. Apart from PWD officials, those involved in the bridge construction projects were also present at the inauguration.
For the construction of Terei Bridge, a NABARD loan of Rs 1,365.60 lakh was sanctioned on 08.11.2016. The construction work was awarded to M/s Sadguru Engineers & Allied Services Private Limited on 24.07.2017, with an agreement amount of Rs 1,276.74 lakhs. Terei Bridge is a double-lane built-up steel girder bridge located on the Bairabi–Zamuang road, about 7 km from Bairabi. The total expenditure on the project, including NABARD and SASCI funding, amounted to Rs 2,765.60 lakhs.
For the construction of Langkaih Bridge, a NABARD (RIDF-XXIII) loan of Rs 2,231.91 lakhs was sanctioned on 29.01.2018. The tender was issued in 2018, and the work was awarded to M/s Sadguru Engineers & Allied Services Private Limited on 27.03.2018, with an agreement amount of Rs 2,203.26 lakhs. Langkaih Bridge is located on the Mizoram–Tripura border between Kanhmun village and Damcherra village.
