Speaking at the North East Education Conclave 2026 in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district, Mizoram Education Minister Vanlalthlana urged the Central Government to frame education policies that account for the distinct geographical and socio-economic realities of the northeastern states rather than applying a uniform national approach. Highlighting Mizoram’s progress as well as its hurdles in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Minister pointed out key regional challenges including declining enrolment in government schools, a shortage of rural secondary institutions, understaffing in DIETs and SCERTs, financial constraints, poor internet connectivity, and difficulties in implementing solar power. To address these issues, Vanlalthlana called for enhanced central support and highlighted state-level initiatives such as the Standardised Assessment for Elementary Schools, the Vidya Samiksha Kendra monitoring platform, and Project Intodelh—which fosters financial literacy and entrepreneurship among students—while the Mizoram delegation submitted proposals regarding Samagra Shiksha 3.0 and PM-USHA tailored to the state’s unique terrain and lifestyle.
