As part of the celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of All India Radio (AIR), All India Radio Aizawl organized a Musical Concert ar Central YMA Hall, Tuikhuahtlang. on Tuesday. The event was graced by B. Lalchhanzova, Minister of IPRP&S as the Chief Guest.
Lalchhanzova, in his address, congratulated AIR on its 90th anniversary and stated that the institution has played a vital role in preserving Mizo culture and language, making it an important guardian of Mizo identity. He observed that in today’s world, many indigenous cultures are gradually disappearing and emphasized the need to make concerted efforts to safeguard unique cultural practices and traditions. He further remarked that AIR has significantly contributed to the promotion of Mizo literature and music, instilling pride in one’s heritage, and imparting positive values to society.
DR Lalropuia, Director of AIR Aizawl and Cluster Head, in his welcome address highlighted the origin and evolution of All India Radio. He stated that even before India attained independence, AIR had already been serving as a key medium of communication for the masses. Beyond being merely a news broadcaster, it has functioned as a crucial link between the government and the people, contributing to national development. He noted that AIR continues to hold an important role in the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Established on June 8, 1936, with its Headquarters at New Delhi, AIR presently operates 230 stations across the country, including AIR Aizawl. As part of the 90th anniversary observance, AIR Aizawl will organize a Walkathon on May 8, 2026. The main commemorative event will be held on June 8, 2026 at Vanapa Hall, with Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram as the Chief Guest.
During the event, Top Grade Artist Vanhlupuii and four ‘A’ Grade Artists – Laltlanthangi Pachuau, Siampuii Sailo, C. Vansanga, and Rualthankhuma Chhakchhuak were honoured with commemorative mementos in recognition of their contributions. The function featured an engaging musical session with performances.
AIR Aizawl is also celebrating its 60th year, for which various programmes are being organized. These celebrations are being conducted not only in Aizawl but across different clusters.
Chief Guest Lalchhanzova presented mementos to the Top Grade and ‘A’ Grade Artists. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Biakchungnunga, Additional Director (Programme) / Head of Programme, AIR Aizawl.
