Vikram “Vik” Bajaj has been named co-chief executive of Project Prometheus, a highly secretive AI initiative backed with over $6 billion in funding, which he will lead alongside Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The venture aims to develop advanced AI solutions for the physical economy, including sophisticated manufacturing and engineered products. Bajaj brings extensive experience from science-driven companies, having worked at Verily, Google X, GRAIL, and Foresite Labs.
Bajaj is a physicist, chemist, and scientist with a career spanning academia, biotech, and AI. He co-founded Xaira Therapeutics in 2023 and continues as Director and Interim President. Since 2017, he has been a Managing Director at Foresite Capital, guiding investments in technology, data science, and biotechnology, and serves as CEO of Foresite Labs. Previously, he was Chief Scientific Officer at GRAIL and co-founded Verily, working closely with Sergey Brin at Google X.
Bajaj holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from MIT and a combined BA/MS in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He has served as Adjunct Associate Professor at Stanford and on UC Berkeley’s Advisory Board, earning awards including the Anatole Abragam Prize and two R&D 100 Awards.
