Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Tuesday distributed fish seed and fish feed to fish farmers and aquaculture beneficiaries at the Fisheries Department Fish Farm in Lengpui in Aizawl district.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Union Minister highlighted the vast fisheries potential of Mizoram in strengthening livelihoods and boosting the local economy.
He said the Central Government has launched several initiatives for the welfare and development of fish farmers and urged them to avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
The Union Minister further highlighted the growing opportunities in ornamental fisheries, scientific fish farming and the use of quality fish seed to enhance fish production and farmers’ income.
He noted that while India is among the world’s leading fish-producing countries, the North Eastern states have significant scope for further growth.
Singh also called upon fish farmers in Mizoram to adopt modern aquaculture practices and contribute to increasing fish production in the state.
