Tripura has achieved a significant medical milestone with Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital successfully performing their first leadless pacemaker implantation on a critically ill 71‑year‑old patient. The miniature, wire‑free device—delivered directly into the heart through a vein—marks a major advancement in minimally invasive cardiac care.

Health officials said the patient was admitted in a life‑threatening condition, suffering from complete heart block, traumatic brain injury, intraparenchymal haemorrhage and septic shock. Specialists from Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Medicine ICU and Cardiology worked for several days to stabilise him before proceeding with the implantation.

Unlike conventional pacemakers that require chest surgery and external leads, the leadless system reduces infection risks and shortens recovery time. The patient has shown remarkable improvement and is now stable. The procedure was led by Dr. Anindya Sundar Trivedi and supported by a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, junior doctors, cath lab nurses and technicians.
