To strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has sanctioned 50 additional MBBS seats each for Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in Agartala, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday. With this latest approval, TMC’s intake capacity has increased from 100 to 150 seats, raising the total number of MBBS seats in the state to 450. Chief Minister Saha described the development as “a major step forward in Tripura’s efforts to expand medical education and improve healthcare access,” highlighting the government’s continuous focus on strengthening the sector.

Over the past three years, Tripura has secured a total of 225 additional MBBS seats, reflecting a steady progress in medical infrastructure and education. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their ongoing support in enhancing healthcare facilities in the state. “This achievement is a remarkable milestone in our mission to provide quality medical education and ensure better healthcare services for the people of Tripura,” Saha said in a social media post, reaffirming the government’s commitment to nurturing skilled medical professionals for the region.

The expansion is expected to benefit thousands of aspiring medical students while contributing to improved healthcare delivery across Tripura, aligning with broader national objectives for accessible and quality medical services.
