Tripura earned a proud moment in the national media space as journalist Sutapa Guha represented the state at a prestigious three-day workshop jointly organised by UNESCO, the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), and the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists in Bengaluru. The event, held from November 11 to 13, marked the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, bringing together reporters from across India for intensive training and capacity-building.

The workshop focused on some of the most urgent issues facing the media today, including journalist safety, digital security, legal protections, fact-checking, and gender-sensitive mechanisms for safeguarding reporters in conflict-prone environments. Participants also received hands-on training in modern reporting techniques, field assignments, and strategies to strengthen professional skills.

Among the forty journalists selected from different states, Sutapa Guha stood out as Tripura’s lone female representative, a distinction that drew appreciation from the media fraternity back home. Her presence at the event underscored the growing contributions of women journalists from the region. Guha described the sessions as “highly practical and professionally enriching.” She expressed gratitude to UNESCO and IJU for the opportunity, noting that the exposure would significantly improve the quality and depth of her reporting.
