During the last five years, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) administration would not raise electricity rates, the state assembly was informed by Mizoram’s electricity Minister, F Rodingliana, during a recent session. The administration’s commitment to improving the state’s electricity generation was emphasized by Minister Rodingliana.
“There is no plan to change power tariff for consumers during the five years of the present government,” Minister Rodingliana said, reiterating the ZPM government’s pledge made when it took office in December of last year.
According to statistics, Mizoram presently has 15 minor hydroelectric projects producing 38.55 MW of power amongst them. Minister Rodingliana did concede that weather may have an impact on power generation, though.
Notably, to meet Mizoram’s peak demand of 156 MW, the state spends between Rs 33 and Rs 37 million per month on power purchased from outside sources.Four new solar power plants with a combined 45 MW of output and three 294 MW of hydroelectric projects are supposedly under construction in order to remedy this.
