TATA AIG General Insurance Company has been selected as the implementing insurance partner for the PradhanMantriFasalBimaYojana (PMFBY) across 11 districts of Mizoram for the Kharif 2026 season, strengthening its presence in the agricultural insurance segment. The company will implement the flagship crop insurance scheme in Hnahthial, Serchhip, Aizawl, Lawngtlai, Mamit, Saitual, Siaha, Champhai, Khawzawl, Kolasib and Lunglei districts.
Jointly sponsored by the Government of India and the Government of Mizoram, PMFBY provides financial protection to farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities, pests and diseases. Under the mandate, TATA AIG will facilitate enrolment of farmers cultivating notified crops through banks, Common Service Centres (CSCs) and the official PMFBY portal before the prescribed cut-off dates. Farmers can also verify applicable premium rates and complete enrolment online.
The appointment reinforces TATA AIG’s strategy of expanding its footprint in rural insurance while promoting crop insurance awareness and risk management solutions. The company, a joint venture between the Tata Group and American International Group (AIG), has completed 24 years of operations in India and manages assets under management of ₹26,854 crore. It operates through more than 220 locations with over 8,750 employees, including 1,100-plus full-time claims experts, and has partnerships with over 12,000 network hospitals and 11,000 garages nationwide.
In Aizawl, the implementation of PMFBY is expected to improve insurance penetration in the state’s agriculture sector and strengthen the rural financial ecosystem. Greater participation in crop insurance could enhance farmers’ financial resilience, support agricultural investment and create opportunities for banks, financial institutions and service centres involved in scheme enrolment, contributing to broader economic activity in and around Aizawl.
