Following an injury to his lower left rib cage region during fielding in third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been diagnosed with a laceration injury to his spleen, according to BBCi. Iyer sustained the injury while making a catch against Australia’s batsman-wicketkeeper Alex Carry. He was sent to the hospital right away for additional testing and was sent to the intensive care unit. Iyer is presently receiving treatment, is in good health, and is recuperating nicely, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. He also mentioned that the Indian team doctor will be staying by his side in Sydney.
“A splenic laceration damage was discovered by scans. He is receiving treatment, staying healthy, and making a full recovery. The BCCI Medical Team is keeping a careful eye on his injury status while consulting with experts in Sydney and India. To assess Shreyas’ daily progress, the Indian Team physician will stay in Sydney with him,” according to a statement.
Iyer is anticipated to undergo more evaluation by experts, who will quickly determine his course for recuperation, according to earlier reports. In order to reduce the possibility of infection from internal bleeding spreading to other critical organs, Iyer was brought to the hospital right away. “After the specialists evaluate him, he may need to stay in the intensive care unit for a few more days or be closely monitored by them for a week or so,” the sources added.
