For the first time, the Tourism Department of Mizoram organised a special sunset viewing programme called “Sakawrhmuituai Sunset” at Sakawrhmuituai Hill. The event was held on the last evening of the year and attracted a large number of visitors, including local residents and tourists from outside the state.
The programme was attended by Tourism Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar as the chief guest. Local MLA Pu Lalthansanga, who is also the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, was also present at the event. Senior officers from the Tourism Department, including Director Pi R. Lalrodingi, were part of the official team.
During his address, Tourism Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar thanked the leaders and residents of Sihphir village for their support and cooperation in organising the programme. He said that the success of the event showed how important community participation is in tourism development. He also mentioned that community-based tourism has been a long-time dream for him, and this programme reflected that idea in a real and practical way.
The Minister described Sakawrhmuituai Hill as a very beautiful natural location that deserves wider recognition. He said that the sunset view from the hill is unique and has strong potential to attract tourists from other parts of the country. He also shared that the Tourism Department plans to organise the programme on an even larger scale in the coming years. According to him, as more people visit the hill, the local community of Sihphir will also benefit economically through tourism-related activities.
Local MLA Pu Lalthansanga also addressed the gathering. He appreciated the joint effort of the Tourism Department and the Sihphir village leaders and residents in organising the event. He encouraged the public to enjoy the year-end celebrations with happiness while also maintaining discipline and respect for the law.
Apart from the official programme, the event also included music and entertainment. Popular contemporary Mizo singers performed for the crowd, creating a cheerful atmosphere as people gathered to bid farewell to the outgoing year and welcome the New Year. There were also food stalls and carnival-style activities set up by local groups, which added to the festive mood.
