During a high-level visit to the Kolasib district on Thursday, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, emphasized a multi-sectoral approach to accelerate Mizoram’s development. Speaking at an interactive meeting with district officials and department heads, the Minister underscored the urgent need for expanding hydroelectric projects to ensure the state becomes self-reliant in meeting its escalating energy demands.
A major point of concern raised by the Minister was the limited access to quality central education in the state. Noting that Mizoram currently hosts only one Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gopi urged local authorities and Members of Parliament to actively pursue the establishment of more schools to benefit the student population. He further highlighted that maintaining high standards in foundational education is critical for children to reach their full potential, while specifically encouraging greater female participation in professional fields such as nursing.
Turning to the state’s economic strengths, the Minister acknowledged Mizoram’s fertile land and robust agricultural base. He called for intensified efforts to streamline the export of local horticulture and farm produce to both national and international markets. The Minister also welcomed the ongoing improvements in regional connectivity, particularly the expansion of railway infrastructure, which he described as a vital catalyst for the state’s future growth. By integrating energy security, educational reform, and enhanced logistics, the Minister projected a transformative developmental trajectory for the region.
