In a significant anti-drug operation, authorities in Mizoram have seized narcotics worth over Rs 7 crore and arrested five individuals in separate incidents, officials confirmed on March 7.

In the first major bust, a joint operation by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) led to the seizure of 48 kg of crystal methamphetamine in Aizawl’s Khatla neighborhood. The confiscated drug, valued at Rs 6.72 crore, was being trafficked to Delhi, where its street price is around Rs 14 lakh per kg, officials said.

🔹 Three individuals, including a woman, were arrested.
🔹 The suspects hail from Ngopa (Saitual district), Ramhlun South (Aizawl), and Zokhawthar (Champhai district).
🔹 A vehicle with an Assam registration number used for transporting the drugs was seized.
🔹 The accused were booked under the NDPS Act, 1985, and produced before the Special Court (NDPS Act), Aizawl.

In a separate operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police apprehended a 65-year-old woman and her accomplice at Zokhawthar (Champhai district), near the Myanmar border.

🔹 The duo was caught with 55 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 41.25 lakh.
🔹 The accused, residents of Zokhawthar and Champhai town, were taken into custody.
🔹 They were handed over to the state police for further legal proceedings.

Mizoram has witnessed a surge in drug trafficking activities, with security forces intensifying efforts to curb the illegal trade along the Myanmar border. Authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown on organized drug syndicates operating in the region.
