A 56-year-old businessman from Mizoram has successfully recovered from prostate cancer after undergoing advanced robotic-assisted surgery at Manipal Hospitals EM Bypass in Kolkata, hospital officials said on Monday. Mr. H. Zohmingthanga from Aizawl had visited the hospital for a detailed medical evaluation following ongoing health concerns and treatment for diabetes. During routine investigations, doctors detected unusually high PSA levels. An MRI later revealed a suspicious lesion in the prostate, while a biopsy conducted in June 2025 confirmed prostate cancer.

As the cancer was identified at a localized and treatable stage, the medical team advised robotic radical prostatectomy, a minimally invasive procedure involving robotic-assisted removal of the affected prostate gland. The surgery was successfully carried out in August 2025 by Dr. Abhay Kumar, Director – Urology and Uro-Oncology at Manipal Hospital EM Bypass. The patient was discharged three days after surgery and has shown stable recovery. Follow-up PSA tests conducted in October 2025, January 2026 and April 2026 remained undetectable, indicating no signs of cancer recurrence.

Dr. Kumar said robotic-assisted surgery offers greater precision, faster recovery, reduced pain and shorter hospital stays. He added that Manipal Hospitals Kolkata has performed over 3,000 robotic-assisted surgeries, reflecting growing trust in advanced cancer care across Eastern and Northeastern India. The patient’s family expressed gratitude to the doctors and hospital staff for timely diagnosis and continuous support during the treatment and recovery process.
