The 33rd Foundation Day of Nikhil Rabha Mahila Parishad will be held on 8th August at the premises of Rani Primary School Playground near Guwahati.

The event is being organized by the Kamrup District Rabha Mahila Parishad with support from the Rani Regional Rabha Mahila Parishad, Rani Regional Rabha Students’ Union, Rani Regional 6th Schedule Demand Committee and local residents.

The foundation stone for the Foundation Day was laid on 10th July. The ceremonial event was anchored by Lalita Rabha, President of Nikhil Rabha Mahila Parishad.

In the morning, offerings were made to Langa Dewta as per the traditions and customs of the Rabha community. After the completion of the rituals by the priest, the foundation stone for the Foundation Day was laid by Motilal Rabha, President of Nikhil Rabha Students’ Union, amid uruli cries from the women.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the leader said: “We, along with all the Rabha national organizations, have been carrying out a continuous agitation programme from Dispur to Delhi for the inclusion of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution.

The most important point is that our Rabha Hasong area is known as the main corridor for illegal foreigners. Therefore, to ensure development and a strong security system not just for Rabhas but for all communities living in the council area, the 6th Schedule is necessary.

We have already been carrying out our agitation demanding the 6th Schedule for the entire Rabha Hasong area, from Rani to Joyramkuchi in Goalpara, for the sake of building a strong security system. But Delhi has not responded to us on granting the 6th Schedule in the way it should. We hope to get a positive response after the upcoming Budget Session.”

The event was attended by Pushpanjali Kumari Boro, General Council member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council; Dashanan Rabha, President of 6th Schedule Demand Committee; Pradip Rabha, Vice President of Nikhil Rabha Students’ Union; Hiteshwar Rabha, Assistant General Secretary; Bichitra Rabha, Vice President of Nikhil Rabha Mahila Parishad; Kabita Rabha, General Secretary; Ashok Nongbag, General Secretary of Kamrup District Rabha Students’ Union, along with various office bearers of district and regional committees and organizing committees from Kamrup and Goalpara.
