India’s installed solar capacity has increased by an astounding 4,000 percent, and the nation’s renewable energy capacity currently stands at a healthy 227 GW, according to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The minister stated that India is probably the first G20 country to have fulfilled its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement while speaking at the 11th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2025.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development, and Innovation Fund, which could match R&D investments in advanced economies. The minister called for collaboration on infrastructure, charging and battery swapping systems, and supply chain resilience to achieve self-reliance in the energy sector.

India’s Prime Minister Shri Goyal announced significant manufacturing progress in the last decade, with solar photovoltaic module and cell capacity increasing by 38-fold and 21-fold, respectively. The country has launched initiatives like PM Surya Ghar Yojana and PM Kusum Yojana to promote energy self-sufficiency and solar pump expansion. The government also launched a Production Linked Incentive program to boost Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing.
