
More than 1.3 lakh farmers in Mizoram have received over ₹38 crore under the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana, marking the first disbursal for the 2025–26 financial year, officials confirmed on Sunday.The financial support was part of a nationwide payout of ₹20,500 crore released to nearly 9.7 crore farmers across India. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a special event in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. The funds were transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and speed.In Mizoram, a total of ₹38.06 crore was credited to 1,31,238 eligible farmers, bringing much-needed relief to small and marginal cultivators as the new kharif season sets in. The scheme, implemented in the state by the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, continues to serve as a vital source of income support for the farming community.
To mark the occasion, a state-level programme was held at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Selesih, Aizawl, and was simultaneously live-streamed in all district-level agriculture offices and KVKs across Mizoram. The event witnessed the participation of key government officials, local farmers, and representatives of Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs).Lalthansanga, Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, attended as Chief Guest, and in his address, he thanked the Central Government for its continued commitment to the welfare of farmers. “The PM-KISAN scheme has been a reliable and timely support system for our farmers. I urge all beneficiaries to use the funds effectively—to invest in seeds, equipment, and other inputs that can improve productivity,” he said.The Minister also used the platform to announce the opening of online applications for Phase-2 of Mizoram’s flagship Handholding scheme, aimed at further assisting farmers through technical support and subsidies. He reiterated the state government’s dedication to working in synergy with Central schemes to uplift the rural economy.
Also present at the function were Special Secretary Ramdinliani, Agriculture Director R. Lalnunzira, senior officers from the Agriculture Department, staff from KVK Aizawl, PM-KISAN beneficiaries, and local farming leaders. Several farmers expressed gratitude, sharing how the financial aid had helped them sustain operations amid fluctuating input costs and market uncertainties.Launched in 2019, the PM-KISAN Yojana provides an annual income support of ₹6,000 to eligible small and marginal farmers, paid in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. It remains one of the largest income transfer schemes for farmers in India and is seen as a crucial step toward ensuring agricultural resilience and rural prosperity.
