The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which is in charge of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), has officially announced its leadership team. This confirms its authority after a clear win in the recent civic elections. At a party office celebration on Tuesday, the party leadership chose H. Lalremtluanga to be the new mayor and R. Lalawmpuii to be the deputy mayor for the 2026–2031 term. The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has officially announced its leadership team for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), solidifying its mandate following a decisive victory in the recent civic elections. During a celebration held at the party office on Tuesday, the party leadership named H. Lalremtluanga as the new mayor and R. Lalawmpuii as the deputy mayor for the 2026–2031 term.

H. Lalremtluanga, who represents Ward-6, which includes the neighborhoods of Chanmari West, Edenthar, and Hunthar, takes over as mayor after winning the 2024 AMC by-election. R. Lalawmpuii, the representative for Ward-16, which includes Bethlehem Veng, Bethlehem Vengthlang, and College Veng, is with him. Lalawmpuii, who was first elected in 2021 from a reserved seat, showed a lot of political growth this year by running for and winning a general seat.

The ZPM won a historic election, which led to these appointments. On April 21, the elections for the 19-member civic body were held, and the results were made public on Monday. The ZPM won 17 of the 19 seats, which was a huge win. The Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress party, on the other hand, only got one seat each. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which ran candidates in 11 wards, did not win any seats.

The ZPM-led AMC government has also hired four executive corporators, a team made up of one woman and three men, to further strengthen the administration. The new administration will focus on Aizawl’s development agenda over the next five years, and this leadership structure is expected to guide the city’s government during that time.

The people of Aizawl are looking forward to the ZPM’s civic vision being put into action as the new council gets ready to take office. The party is in a good position to push its administrative priorities through the next term, which will run from 2026 to 2031, because it has a strong majority in the corporation.
