On National Girl Child Day, Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga called for enhanced inter-departmental collaboration to create a safe atmosphere for girls and promote their rights and empowerment. Celebrated in Mizoram, where official observance falls on a holiday, the day included a significant event in Aizawl, emphasizing safety for girls from all social backgrounds. In Lawngtlai, Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga launched a 100-Day Awareness Campaign on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, highlighting global concern for women’s rights. He underlined the historical limitations on women’s status due to male-centered societal structures but acknowledged significant improvements over time, thanks to government initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment. Lalruatsanga urged women to acquire skills and knowledge for their advancement and called on society, alongside government and NGOs, to actively support women’s development and help them overcome challenges. He stressed the shared responsibility of all stakeholders to assist women in achieving their aspirations and full potential.
