Mizoram team led by Ju-Jitsu Association of Mizoram (JAM), secured an impressive haul of six gold and three bronze medals at the 1st North-East Ju-Jitsu Championship held in Guwahati from 31 January to 2 February 2026.

The championship featured competitions across three fighting styles – Ne-Waza (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), Contact Fighting under MMA rules, and the Fighting System, which combines semi-contact striking and grappling.

Mizoram contingent comprised of five players and one coach, JAM sponsored the team’s entry fees and accommodation, while the SPES Martial Arts Academy covered the travelling expenses.

Ju-Jitsu is among the fastest-growing martial arts globally and can be practised by people of all age groups. Known for its effectiveness in self-defence and mixed martial arts (MMA), the discipline is compulsory for police personnel and school students in several countries.

In Mizoram, JAM has been actively promoting the sport and regularly sends athletes to national and regional competitions. Ju-Jitsu is recognised by the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and is included as a medal sport in the Asian Games. Notably, fewer than ten practitioners in India have earned a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, one of whom hails from Mizoram.
