The Mizoram government, in collaboration with churches, has launched a statewide narcotics awareness campaign to strengthen community-led efforts against drug abuse and expand rehabilitation support for people recovering from substance addiction.
The campaign was jointly inaugurated by the Social Welfare Department and the Mizoram Presbyterian Church at the Chamari Local Presbyterian Church in Aizawl on Sunday. The initiative aims to create greater awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse while encouraging community participation in prevention, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts.
Launching the campaign, Social Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii highlighted the positive outcomes of the government’s Hulhliap detoxification centre programme, which has helped several individuals overcome substance addiction. She said the government is working towards introducing additional measures to improve rehabilitation services and provide long-term support for people undergoing recovery.
The minister emphasised the need for an effective, accessible, and affordable support system to help individuals return to normal social life after overcoming addiction. She also acknowledged the important role played by Narcotics Anonymous (NA) in supporting recovering users and assisting their reintegration into communities.
The state-wide campaign reflects a collective effort by government agencies, churches, and community organisations to address the growing challenges of drug abuse. Officials stated that awareness, counselling, rehabilitation, and continued social support will remain key components in building a healthier and drug-free Mizoram.
