National Handloom Day was commemorated at the Women’s Polytechnic in Aizawl, emphasizing the handloom industry of Mizoram. The occasion highlighted the cultural legacy of Mizo textiles, showcasing the craftsmanship, traditions, and identity intricately woven into each thread. Activities featured a design competition, a practical workshop on dyeing and printing, and a quiz focused on the history of handlooms in India. The event was attended by notable individuals, including Utpal Ch. Baro, Assistant Director (Design) of the Weavers’ Service Centre in Aizawl, and Chief Guest Elizabeth Hmar, Joint Director of the Commerce & Industries Department. The celebration concluded with a fashion show that displayed the adaptability of Mizo handwoven fabrics. The central government is set to host the 11th National Handloom Day celebration at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on August 7, with approximately 650 weavers from across India expected to attend, alongside international buyers, distinguished guests, exporters, and senior government officials.
