Mizoram government on Thursday launched on online facility to streamline and expedite transportation of dead bodies from towns to villages. Transportation of dead bodies from hospital in urban areas to deceased’s native villages with the help of the state’s fund was the poll plank of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) to alleviate the financial burden borne personally by legislators.
Launching the online portal in Aizawl, State’s Social welfare Minister Lalrinpuii said the portal has been developed to expedite the transportation system and to ensure that the facility is easily accessible. She said that transportation of dead bodies on the government’s expense is one of the primary programmes of the government.
The newly launched online portal was developed by Mizoram State e-Governance Society (MseGS) of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department, according to officials. The application is available in google play and app store.The government has so far received 1,680 applications for transportation of dead bodies and Rs. 175.85 lakh has been spent for the purpose, officials said.
