Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated a two-day Knowledge Exchange Health Conclave at Falkland Park, Aizawl, organized under the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) in collaboration with the Health and Family Welfare Department. In his address, he emphasized the government’s prioritization of health as essential for the State’s development, highlighting the introduction of the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), which offers cashless treatment through empanelled hospitals, making it one of the best healthcare systems in India. He noted the significant improvements to health infrastructure, including upgrades to district hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHCs), and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), along with the procurement of advanced medical equipment.

Lalduhoma acknowledged the contributions of the World Bank and the Central Government for their support in enhancing healthcare facilities, which have led to national quality certifications for hospitals in Mizoram. The conclave aims to foster knowledge exchange among health sector experts from various Indian states, promoting better strategies and collaboration that will benefit not only Mizoram but the entire nation. During the event, he also released a Coffee Table Book.

Health Minister Lalrinpuii reported on the advancements achieved through MHSSP, including the procurement of new healthcare equipment and resource optimization. The MHSSP, which began in 2021 with a budget of Rs. 280 crores is set to conclude in March 2026, with substantial progress noted: four out of five Project Development Objectives and 14 out of 16 Intermediate Result Indicators have been met as of January 2026, with expectations to fulfill remaining targets by project end. A key initiative, the MUHCS, set to launch in March 2025, has already reached a 91% enrolment target, earning Mizoram the “Best Performance in Achieving Card Saturation” award from the National Health Authority in January 2026. The conclave is attended by health experts from various states, including Telangana, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and others, as well as representatives from the Gates Foundation and the Northeastern Council (NEC).
