Mizoram Horticulture Minister C. Lalsawivunga inaugurated Hnahsin Kut 2026 at Champhai Zotlang Mual on Tuesday. The cosmos flower festival is being held in Champhai will continue October 16.
Speaking on the occasion, Lalsawivunga, said that one of the main objectives of Hnahsin Kut is to promote the natural beauty, cultural heritage and traditions bestowed upon the state by God through eco-cultural tourism, thereby attracting tourists.
He expressed his happiness that tourists are coming to Hnahsin Kut not only from different districts of Mizoram, but also from other states and countries.
He said that Champhai district has achieved remarkable success in various initiatives. He mentioned that the Champhai Grape Growers’ Society is currently operating a winery at Tlangsam, while another good winery is located at Hnahlan. During the current year alone, Champhai Winery has produced 75,000 litres of grape wine and has already recorded sales worth approximately Rs 6.54 crore. Hnahlan Winery, meanwhile, has produced around 80,000 litres of grape wine, generating approximately Rs 3 crore in revenue.
Through initiatives of the Horticulture Department, passion fruit is currently being cultivated across approximately 375 acres in Champhai District, with substantial efforts also being undertaken in Khawzawl dstrict.
Recognising that processing facilities will be necessary when production increases, the government is currently establishing a Passion Fruit Processing Unit at New Champhai, which is expected to be inaugurated shortly.
He further said that the government’s important ‘Zau Policy’ can be implemented successfully, as demonstrated by the successful cultivation of Zikhlum in Samthang village.
Among the four crops prioritised by the government—ginger, turmeric, chilli and black pepper—Champhai district is currently taking the lead in ginger cultivation.
He also announced that, to help make Hnahsin Kut a success, the Horticulture Department has contributed approximately Rs 20 lakh from the Mizo Ginger Mission fund. He further said that Mizo Ginger Day will be observed during the festival.
He noted that tourists who have visited Mizoram have appreciated the beauty of the state and have not failed to recognise the kindness and hospitality of the Mizo people. He therefore appealed to the people to preserve the good qualities of Mizo culture, continue extending kindness and hospitality to visitors, and always showcase the beautiful Mizo way of life and culture.
