Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh, (Retd), on Thursday graced the State Level Ex-Servicemen Rally at Dawrpui Multipurpose Centre, Aizawl. Home Minister K. Sapdanga also attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor recalled that a significant part of his life had been spent in military uniform and expressed deep satisfaction in interacting with ex-servicemen and their families.
He observed that the smart and disciplined turnout of Mizoram’s ex-servicemen was among the finest he had witnessed anywhere in India, reflecting their high standards of discipline, which he hoped would continue to be maintained.
The Governor noted that the people of Mizoram have set an exemplary standard of service from their active years in the armed forces through to retirement. He urged the State Government to make use of their experience.
Emphasising that the youth are the architects of India’s future, he called upon ex-servicemen to guide the younger generation along the right path, drawing upon their rich experience and patriotic spirit.
Highlighting the collective responsibility of society, the Governor stated that continuous care and welfare of those who had dedicated themselves to protecting the nation and its people must be ensured so that they never feel neglected after retirement.
Paying special tribute to the families of soldiers, he said, “Their sacrifice is no less than that of the soldiers. They are the backbone and the silent contributors. Taking care of the soldiers who guard our frontiers and their families is a national responsibility.” He expressed the hope that the Rally would serve as a renewed pledge to ensure that those who have protected the nation do not feel alone after retirement.
Home Minister K. Sapdanga expressed profound appreciation for the ex-servicemen who dedicated the best years of their lives to the nation and for their families who stood steadfastly by them. He noted that during their service they never sought excuses when the nation required them and even after retirement continue to serve the community with discipline, integrity and commitment, making them valuable assets to society.
As part of the Rally, a Multi-Speciality Medical Camp was organised for the benefit of ex-servicemen and their families. The Governor also felicitated distinguished ex-servicemen and distributed financial assistance to those facing various hardships.
