Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh flagged off the second edition of the PNB Soldierathon 2026 on Sunday, marking the 132nd Foundation Day of Punjab National Bank.The event, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium New Delhi, was organised jointly by Punjab National Bank and the Indian Armed Forces. The marathon, themed “Run For Soldiers”, aimed to honour the contributions of soldiers, particularly those associated with Operation Sindoor, while also promoting fitness and public health.
More than 27,000 participants from different walks of life took part in the event, making it one of the largest fitness initiatives linked to a public sector institution. The programme was conducted under the broader Fit India Campaign, which focuses on encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle among citizens.Addressing the gathering, Governor Vijay Kumar Singh praised the initiative and said such events play an important role in spreading awareness about physical fitness. He said the Soldierathon is helping people understand the importance of maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle. He added that if the message of fitness reaches a wider section of society, it will benefit the country as a whole.
The marathon featured three categories—a 21.1 km half marathon, a 10 km run, and a 5 km run—catering to both professional runners and fitness enthusiasts. Organisers also announced a total prize pool of ₹19.5 lakh for participants across categories.
