The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Mizoram Assembly will meet on February 5 to prepare and decide the detailed programme and length of the upcoming budget session, which commences on February 17, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama said on Wednesday. Although initially scheduled for Wednesday, the meeting of BAC, involving members representing all the legislature parties and officials, has been deferred to February 5 as some opposition members are currently on tour, he said. The detailed programme, including presentation of 2026-27 budget by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and the duration of the session will be chalked out based on the number of official business in the proposed meeting, he added.
On January 9, state Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh summoned the budget session starting from February 17. The upcoming budget session will mark the sixth session of the present 9th state assembly after the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government headed by Chief Minister Lalduhoma assumed power on 8 December, 2023.According to an official, the Assembly secretariat has so far received 248 starred questions and 80 unstarred questions to be presented and answered by concerned ministers during the session.
Two papers have also been received for laying in the assembly, she said. The secretariat is yet to receive government bills, official or private resolutions to be tabled in the assembly, she said.
