In a significant step towards enhancing access to world-class health care to the residents of North-East India, Medanta, one of the largest private multi-specialty tertiary care providers operating in the North and East regions of India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mizoram for empanelment to the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) — which provides cashless treatment for all people who have registered themselves as beneficiaries under the scheme — across all six Medanta hospitals: Gurugram, Noida, Lucknow, Patna, Indore, and Ranchi.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, noted that North East India is a region that has long been underserved with respect to heath care services. He said, “At Medanta, we believe that quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege, and through the signing of this agreement, we reaffirm our ethos – ‘Har Ek Jaan Anmol’, or Every Life Is Invaluable. We are proud to support a program that eases the financial burden of healthcare. We are committed to ensuring that every eligible beneficiary receives the best possible treatment with dignity and respect, as part of our mission to make cutting-edge healthcare accessible to all.”

Mizoram faces persistent healthcare challenges due to limited access to specialized care and is the state with the highest rate of cancer in India, an 18-year trend study has suggested. In addition, a geographic and infrastructural gap in primary healthcare contributes to low screening rates for cancer, underscoring the urgent need for increased awareness and improved access to medical treatment.

Welcoming the development, Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, CEO of the Mizoram State Health Care Society & State Health Agency, stated, “Through our association with Medanta, we are creating a structured pathway that allows people from Mizoram to seek quality treatment in six world-class facilities located across five states, reducing delays in treatment and easing the financial and emotional burden on thousands of patients and their families. Our people will be empowered to seek advanced and specialised medical treatment without uncertainty or unnecessary hardship.”

Reinforcing its long-term commitment to advancing healthcare in North-East India, Medanta has already announced the development of a state-of-the-art 400+ bed super-specialty hospital in Guwahati, Assam. In addition, Medanta has also launched a dedicated Helpline Number for the North-Eastern states: 8904395588.
