The Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga expressed significant concerns regarding the increasing flow of illegal immigrants and unregulated trading activities in Lawngtlai district during a consultation meeting. He noted that the Mizoram Home Department has issued directives for necessary action. Lalruatsanga emphasized the need for coordinated efforts involving NGOs, village councils, police, and security forces to address these issues, highlighting their potential long-term implications for the district and state. While recognizing humanitarian aspects, he warned that inaction could lead to future challenges. Proposals included convening an Inter-District Joint Meeting and implementing surprise checks on undocumented immigrants. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Drafting Committee, led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, was established to finalize the SOP by mid-February. The meeting also urged the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) to collaborate fully in developing a comprehensive SOP, with participation from various local authorities and security forces.
