In Kelkang village, Champhai district, a significant narcotics recovery occurred on May 15 as a result of a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force. Authorities found 2.5 kg of Heroin No. 4, which is likely to have been sold illegally for Rs 17.54 crore. The seizure came after certain intelligence reports regarding the transportation of drugs in the region. They moved quickly, launching a synchronized area control patrol. When security officers conducted the sweep, they found 219 soap cases containing premium heroin.
Formally, the confiscated drugs were turned over to the Champhai Customs Preventive Force for additional examination and legal action. Drug trafficking has increased recently in the Champhai neighborhood, which is adjacent to a porous international border. Security forces are still stepping up concerted efforts to dismantle the local smuggling networks.
