Mizoram Police and the Assam Rifles have seized heroin and smuggled foreign cigarettes valued at over ₹9 crore in two separate operations in Champhai district. One person has been arrested in connection with the narcotics haul.

According to officials, the first operation took place on Wednesday after the security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about possible contraband movement in the area. Acting swiftly, a joint team of Assam Rifles and state police set up checks at the Champhai police gate. During the inspection, the team recovered one kilogram of heroin hidden inside a vehicle. The estimated market value of the seized heroin is around ₹8.58 crore.

A man found in possession of the narcotics was taken into custody. Both the accused and the seized contraband were later handed over to Champhai Police for further investigation. Authorities suspect the heroin originated from across the Myanmar border, given Champhai’s proximity to the international boundary and its history as a smuggling hotspot
