Mizoram University (MZU) celebrated a landmark moment on Tuesday as the institution hosted a grand ceremony to mark its recent A+ Grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), with a CGPA of 3.30. Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who is also the Chief Rector of the university, graced the event held at the MZU Auditorium as the chief guest and also launched the university’s newly developed e-Office Portal.Addressing the gathering, Governor Singh congratulated the university on its significant achievement and praised its journey of growth and academic excellence since its establishment in 2000 and operationalization in 2001. “Mizoram University has made remarkable progress and now stands among the leading academic institutions not just in the Northeast but across the country,” he said.He noted that MZU’s consistent inclusion in the top 100 universities under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), with a current rank of 77, and its 15th position among Central Universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF), are strong indicators of its rising national stature.
The Governor also commended MZU’s efforts in aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, citing initiatives such as the implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits, promotion of online education via SWAYAM and MOOCs, and the establishment of the DRDO Industry-Academia Center of Excellence — the only one of its kind in the Northeast. He further highlighted the university’s contributions to research, mentioning its h-index of 98 and ownership of 46 patents, while also applauding MZU’s inclusive and sustainable approach with its disabled-friendly, eco-conscious campus and wide-ranging extension activities. With 43 international students from 15 different countries currently enrolled, the Governor said MZU represents a hub of academic diversity and global learning.Encouraging the university to continue striving for excellence, Governor Singh urged the faculty and students to pursue ethical leadership, innovation, and diligence in their academic and research endeavors. He also called upon the university to prepare for the transition as the state plans for its own university system.
In his remarks, MZU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka expressed immense pride in the institution becoming one of only a handful — 11 out of 56 Central Universities — to receive the A+ Grade from NAAC. He thanked faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders for their collective dedication and emphasized that this milestone brings increased responsibility. “Let this not be the end but a stepping stone towards securing an A++ grade in the future,” he said.Earlier, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pravakar Rath delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Diwakar Tiwari, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), presented a detailed report on the accreditation process and MZU’s performance. Registrar Prof. Lalnundanga concluded the event with a vote of thanks, acknowledging everyone’s contributions to MZU’s continued growth and excellence.
