The Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association (MTDA) has initiated a public interest litigation (PIL) against the Mizoram Government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and other parties concerning the deteriorating state of national highways 6 and 306 in Mizoram.
The PIL was submitted by Rohmingthanga, who provided photographic evidence of trucks having difficulty navigating the highway and included newspaper articles highlighting the struggles faced by the public.
Additionally, the MTDA’s legal representative presented correspondence from the State Public Works Department (PWD), which indicated that the responsibility for the road’s repair and maintenance was transferred to NHIDCL on July 3. According to the agreement with NHIDCL, the PWD will oversee the road maintenance until January 2, 2025.
