Two Assam Rifles personnel lost their lives in a sudden terrorist attack in Manipur. Several other personnel were also injured in the attack that took place in Ukhrul district on Monday.

According to police, at around 1:30 PM, suspected terrorists opened fire on a convoy of 40 Assam Rifles in the Nungsang Khong area. Two personnel were killed on the spot in the attack and several others were injured.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation. Police said the operation to track down the attackers is underway.

Meanwhile, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam strongly condemned the attack. In a post on social media platform ‘X’, he said, “I am deeply saddened by this sudden attack on the 40 Assam Rifles convoy at Nungsang Khong in Ukhrul.”

The Home Minister also assured that strict action as per law would be taken against those involved in the attack.

It may be noted that since the ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities began in May 2023, search and area domination operations by security forces have been continuing in vulnerable areas of Manipur. More than 260 people have died in this conflict so far, and thousands have been displaced.
