As part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, Lok Bhavan Assam celebrated West Bengal Statehood Day on Friday, commemorating the formation of West Bengal on June 20, 1947, and highlighting India’s socio-cultural unity.

The programme was held at the Kanaklal Barua Auditorium of the Assam State Museum under the leadership of Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The Governor extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of West Bengal on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya highlighted West Bengal’s rich cultural heritage and its significant contributions to India’s history, literature, education, science, spirituality and the freedom movement.

He said West Bengal has played a crucial role in shaping India’s national consciousness and continues to contribute to the country’s social, cultural, academic, intellectual and economic development.

The Governor described West Bengal as the cradle of the Indian Renaissance and recalled the contributions of eminent personalities such as Swami Vivekananda, Maharshi Aurobindo, Raja Rammohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, whose works have enriched India’s heritage.

He also underlined the deep historical, cultural and economic connections between Assam and West Bengal.

Expressing confidence in West Bengal’s continued contribution towards building a Viksit Bharat, Governor Acharya urged the youth to embrace values of knowledge, discipline, innovation, service and patriotism. He wished the people of West Bengal happiness, prosperity, good health and continued progress.

On the occasion, the Governor also paid floral tribute to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha on Rabha Divas and remembered his contribution to Assam’s cultural renaissance and national unity.

The programme was attended by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S. S. Meenakshi Sundaram; Director General of Civil Defence, Commandant General of Home Guards, Special Director General of CID and Chairman of Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd. Munna Prasad Gupta; Chief Editor of Dainik Jugasankha Bikash Sarkar and other dignitaries.
