Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday raised serious concern over the state receiving one of the lowest shares of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds in the country, despite the nationwide mandate for companies to allocate part of their profits to social development. The Chief Minister attributed the problem to the limited number of registered CSR implementing agencies in Mizoram. Speaking at the valedictory function of a three-day capacity-building workshop held in Aizawl, Lalduhoma urged local organisations, NGOs, and institutions to take proactive steps to register themselves as eligible CSR fund implementers. “Even though numerous companies across India are legally required to carry out CSR activities, Mizoram continues to receive a disproportionately low share of these funds,” he said.

The workshop, jointly organised by the Mizoram CSR Cell and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), aimed to train and inform stakeholders about the registration process, fund mobilisation, and potential project opportunities under CSR frameworks. Highlighting the tangible benefits of CSR funding, Lalduhoma cited the example of Serchhip District Hospital, which received over ₹21 crore through CSR contributions. “This is a clear example of how CSR can transform critical infrastructure and services in the state,” he noted. However, he also pointed out that such success stories remain rare due to a lack of eligible agencies and outreach.

To bridge the gap and improve access to corporate-backed development funds, the Chief Minister announced that a dedicated CSR Cell has already been set up in the Chief Minister’s Office. This cell is tasked with assisting local societies, NGOs, hospitals, and other institutions in the registration process and in navigating CSR guidelines. “The goal is to make the process simpler and more accessible, so that more organisations in Mizoram can benefit from these funds,” Lalduhoma said. He called on all eligible bodies to register with the CSR Cell, assuring that the state government will extend full support to help them secure funding for meaningful developmental projects. Also present at the event was the CM’s adviser for finance and planning, MLA TBC Lalvenchhunga, who also serves as the chairman of the Mizoram CSR Cell. He reiterated the state’s commitment to strengthening its institutional capacity to absorb more CSR funds in the future.
