BSF troopers on Monday found the body of a young teenage girl near the India-Bangladesh border in northern Tripura. The body of the adolescent girl, who was identified as 16 years old, was discovered close to the Latiapura Border Out Post in the Unakoti district’s Kailashahar. The girl was identified through preliminary police investigations as a native of Bangladesh, living in the Juri region under the Kulaura police station in the Moulvibazar district. Near the zero point where the two countries meet, she was discovered approximately 50 meters beyond the border fence. We don’t yet know what caused her death or why she was discovered close to the border.

Upon discovering the body, members of the 199 Battalion BSF promptly notified the Irani police station located in Kailashahar. Senior police officers and forensic specialists were dispatched to the scene as a result. In front of a magistrate, they sent the body to the Kailashahar district hospital for a post-mortem. While the cause of the girl’s death is still being investigated, some media reports speculate that the girl may have been shot by BGB troops when attempting to enter Indian territory for illicit purposes.

There has been a noticeable increase in the quantity of unauthorized border crossings from Bangladesh into Tripura in recent times. Various security forces, including the BSF, have detained around 300 citizens of Bangladesh in various regions of the state. Following the recent retrieval of the adolescent girl’s body from Bangladesh, BSF is actively collaborating with Bangladeshi authorities to obtain further details on the incident and identify the victim. By providing this aid, the larger problem of unauthorized border crossing will be addressed and the circumstances behind her death will be made clear.
