BJP MLA K Hrahmo from the Palak constituency in Siaha district has advocated for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Mizoram, contending that a common legal framework would provide crucial safeguards for tribal women. Speaking at a session at the BJP office in Aizawl, Hrahmo stressed the importance of evaluating the UCC within the context of Mizoram’s evolving demographic profile. He raised concerns over instances where non-tribal men—who may already have multiple wives—marry Mizo women, leaving the women socially and legally vulnerable to exploitation. The legislator maintained that adopting the UCC would address complex legal challenges arising from inter-community marriages while ensuring gender equality and enhanced legal protection for women across the state.
