The theatre-based cultural presentation ‘25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026’ took place at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl, organized collaboratively by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, and the Art & Culture Department of the Government of Mizoram. The Chief Guest Carol V.L.M.S. Dawngkimi, Director of the Art & Culture Department, commended the partnership with NSD and underscored the department’s commitment to enhancing training programs in Drama, Folk Arts, and Music through the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA). She encouraged students to enroll in these programs and expressed optimism for future collaborations with NSD.
Shantanu Bose, Dean of the National School of Drama, delivered a speech emphasizing Mizoram’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of preserving and promoting its traditions. He expressed hope that the Theatre Festival would facilitate this goal and mentioned NSD’s eagerness to maintain collaborative efforts with Mizoram in the arts.
The ‘25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026’, inaugurated in Delhi on January 28, aims to showcase and promote theatre culture across all Indian states and union territories, and internationally on five continents. It is recognized as the largest theatre festival worldwide. During the event in Aizawl, NSD presented ‘Macbeth – Flesh’, while local performers Chawngmawii and Hrangchhuana showcased their piece, scripted by M.S. Ralte, the Drama Instructor at IMFA. The event attracted participation from school students, teachers, and former IMFA trainees, reinforcing community engagement in the arts.
